(This is going to be the belated review of my latest read – “Anything for you, ma’am” by Tushar Raheja)
One fine evening I was sauntering in the bookstore at the Landmark, The Forum, Bangalore. I was looking for books that falls under the genre ‘Memoirs/Autobiography’. Now I am not that interested in reading autobiographies/memoirs of some famous political or business figure. (In fact I was writing a kind of memoir on my life and I was looking for a book that deals with such a subject, which may probably help improve my own writing.)
After hours of fruitless search, I decided to leave. Finally I came across the section on the front of the store where the bestsellers’ were on display and my eyes fell on this particular book, “Anything for you, ma’am” by Tushar Raheja. I took the book in my hands and gently flipped through the pages.
I was greatly surprised by the style of language used in that book. It was written in a colloquial style, in the jargon of a campus veteran. I love this style of English language and one can hardly find books that use this style of writing. And the subject was ‘romantic memoir’ the one I was looking for. I immediately bought the book.
‘An IITian’s love story’ screams the cover page. The writer has a B.Tech., in Industrial Engineering from IIT, Delhi. This is his first book and was published when he was in his final year at IIT. No doubt, the book is now a national bestseller.
The story is about a boy who takes up a journey that involves a lot of risks to meet his love who lives two thousand miles away. The story takes a lot of intriguing turns and twists. In fact the author himself has compared his journey as the Road to Elrado, full of mines.
One should have a lot of patience to sit back, read and enjoy the book. Some of the pages were boring; where I felt that I should stop reading, but as I continued reading I found the book thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating.
The story is well portrayed - you will feel as if you are watching a movie and you get curious – what next? The book pictures the conservative life of the south-Indian, middle-class families and the not so conservative north-Indians.
One can find humour in almost every page, cleverly written – I must say.
The book takes you back to your college days where you are reminded about your pig headed professors and the students who find thrill in breaking rules. It reminds one of what-all happens in a boys’ hostel, the fun and all the joys of a campus life.
Usually they say when a person is in love, he writes poems. The poems and love songs featured in the book will make you laugh out loud at places.
‘Anything for you, ma’am’ – as the title suggests, it is all about a boy who has nothing but the fire to do anything, anything for his love! Rich taste of literature, with references to Shakespeare/Sherlock Holmes makes the book an interesting read. If you are in love, you will appreciate the book even the more.
Despite the subject, I am glad that the story remains clean. Though you will find romance and passion, it won’t be embarrassing to read. The book ends with a Hollywood kind of ending. Yeah, you have guessed it right - lips locked in love.
I don’t want to reveal the plot of the story and create a spoiler for you here. A must read, go grab a copy today and read it for yourself. I give the book a rating of four out of five.
Priced at INR 100, it’s pretty cheap compared to the usually expensive books of this kind. You can read more about the book at the author’s website: raheja.org

2 Kings 2:11-12 (King James Version)
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
2 Kings 13:14 (King James Version)
Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
CBNNews.com - Well-known evangelist DR. D.G.S. Dhinakaran passed away Tuesday at the age of 73.
The long-time friend of The Christian Broadcasting Network and Dr. M.G. "Pat" Robertson is known for huge evangelistic crusades along with his Jesus Calls ministry.
Dhinakaran, considered by many of his peers as the "apostle of this age to India", was known for holding powerful prayer rallies guided by the Holy Spirit, where he'd call out the names of people who were in the crowd, reveal their exact needs, and minister directly to them.
Dhinakaran was joined by Robertson at one rally not long after the beginning of the new millenium in Hyderabad, India, where they ministered to 500,000 people. He also worked closely with Robertson through the years in establishing CBN ministries in India.
The Indian evangelist's biography tells of a 20-year-old young man caught in poverty and unemployment at the point of taking his life. On his way to throw himself in front of a speeding train, he was stopped by his uncle who introduced him to Jesus Christ. He said an immediate peace overwhelmed him, and he went home with hope and a new purpose for his life.
The young Dhinakaran worked at a bank and ended up becoming a top executive for the company. Yet he had a heart for ministry that compelled him to start the Jesus Calls ministry.
Later, he had a vision of the Lord Jesus appearing to him, asking him to train lay people like himself to reach the people of his nation and other parts of Asia with the good news of the Gospel.
Later he started radio and television ministries across India. He also started other ministries related to Jesus Calls ministry, wrote books, and influenced many people in all walks of life for God.
Watch The 700 Club Wednesday for more on the ministry of this man of faith, and for comments by Pat Robertson on the passing of his dear friend.
