Thoughts to ponder - One Liners

  • Many folks want to serve God, but only as advisors.

  • It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.

  • When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there.

  • People are funny; they want the front of the bus, the middle of the road, and the back of the church.

  • Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.

  • Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong.

  • Some minds are like concrete... Thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.

  • Peace starts with a smile.

  • I don't know why some people change churches; what difference does it make which one you stay home from?!

  • A lot of church members who are singing "Standing on the Promises" are just sitting on the premises.

  • We were called to be witnesses, not lawyers or judges.

  • Be ye fishers of men. You catch them - He'll clean them.

  • Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.

  • Don't put a question mark where God put a period.

  • Don't wait for six strong men to take you to church.

  • Forbidden fruits create many jams.

  • God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

  • God grades on the cross, not the curve.

  • God loves everyone, but probably prefers "fruits of the spirit" over "religious nuts!"

  • God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

  • He who angers you, controls you!

  • If God is your Co-pilot - swap seats!

  • Prayer - Don't give God instructions; just report for duty!

  • The task ahead of us is never as Great as the Power behind us.

  • The Will of God never takes you to where the Grace of God will not protect you.

  • We don't change the message, the message changes us.

  • You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to........discourage him.

  • The best mathematical equation I have ever seen:
    1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.

The Time Is Now!

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
—John 10:10

We must learn to be "now" people and not relegate everything to the future.

I believe it is time to possess the land, time to get very serious. We need to take a more aggressive stand concerning possessing what Jesus died to give us. We can think about it, dream about it, talk about it, but it is time to actually have and enjoy all that Jesus has in mind for each of us.

The blessings of God don't simply fall on us. We must stand our ground and possess what is rightfully ours. We can easily get the mistaken idea that we are to limp along here on earth while just looking forward to the blessings of heaven later on.

Have an aggressive faith toward the covenant blessings that God has promised. Start confessing that you are blessed and that the good things of God flow to you in abundance.

The Greater One lives in you. You can do whatever you need to do by His power. Believe it! Don't wait to believe it until later on, but do it now.

Make a decision to be a "now" person.

Say This:
"I believe now, I obey now, I give now, I pray now. I am possessing the land—not later, but now!"

Whom Will You Serve?

...If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself [forget, ignore, disown, and lose sight of himself and his own interests] and take up his cross, and...follow with Me [continually, cleaving steadfastly to Me].
—Mark 8:34

Jesus is coming back for a glorious Church without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. (Ephesians 5:27 KJV.) One of the best ways to become glorious quickly is through prompt and extreme obedience.

Obedience and selfishness are opposing forces. If we are to be glorious, we must be obedient. In order to be obedient, we must be willing to say no to self daily. We must learn to say, "Yes, Lord, yes," and to say it quickly!

We need to learn to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit. He lives in us and is constantly attempting to lead and guide us. He gently lets us know when we are going in the right direction or the wrong direction.

Obedience to the Lord requires developing sensitivity to His ways, which comes through His Word. We are not just to read the Word, but to do the Word. (James 1:22.)

Make a decision today that you are going to come up higher into a new level of obedience. The rewards of an obedient lifestyle are well worth the price.

Choose you this day whom you will serve—the flesh or the Spirit.

Pray This:
"Father, I choose to be obedient in every area of my life. I will follow Your plan and not my own. In Jesus' name, amen."

A Perfect Heart

You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect.
—Matthew 5:48

We are commanded to be perfect, and what God commands, He gives a heart desire to attain. Yet, this desire to be perfect can cause a great deal of frustration.

Perfection is a process that is worked out in our lives as we go from one degree of glory to another. There are degrees of perfection. We can be almost perfect in one area, and very imperfect in others.

When we give our will to God, we have a perfect heart. But even at that point, we still have faults, weaknesses, bad habits, and imperfections.

The Lord accepts us as we are and counts us as perfect while we are on our way toward perfection.

If you have given your will to God, this is step one. You now have a perfect heart, and the process has begun.

You are not alone in your travel from glory to glory. Paul said in Philippians 3:12,13 that he wanted to be perfect, but that he had not yet arrived. He pressed on to things ahead. He knew if his heart was set in the right direction (if he had a perfect heart), that was all God required.

Say This:

"With God's help, I will keep pressing toward perfection. I am growing in maturity, character, integrity, and godliness."

Star turns 57 today

Well i am not ashamed to say this, as I grew up as a Rajni fan watching him on the screens.

Though i do not approve of his life in the real world, as he stays away from the truth sadly; he has acheived tremendously in the entertainment industry.

Still they are sweet memories as I look back from Basha to Sivaji. I remember watching Arunachalam, Muthu, Padayappa, Baba, Chandramukhi and Sivaji on the bigscreen. Some of the others in Television.

I wish him a happy birthday this day, as he turns SilverJubilee+Seven and DiamondJubilee-Three.

Looking forward to Sultan!

Love, Anger and Rejection

"Love does not anger quickly..." 1Cor13:4

Cain and Abel
Cain was a person who angered against his brother Abel, that lead him to kill Abel.

"Do not lead your anger to cause sin, Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry", says the Word of God.

So anger causes you to sin. It causes you to fall.

Anger and rejection
Most of the times these two go together.

When Cain's sacrifice was rejected by God, He got angry with Abel
When Saul was rejected by his subjects, He got angry with David
When Joseph's brothers were rejected by Jacob, They got angry with Joseph

When our prayers are not answered (rejected), we get angry with God.

Love does not anger
Think upon the love of God. Meditate on it. Your anger will disappear. You will have no opportunity to sin. Take a dose of humility when you get angry!

Let Us Make Thanksgiving a Lifestyle

On this day in the United States we celebrate a special holiday called Thanksgiving. As Americans, we set aside a special Thursday in November each year to give thanks to God for His abundant blessings.

Thanksgiving Day is an observance that was begun well over two hundred years ago by settlers in a New World to honor God for His provision and protection. They were so thankful to be alive. The hardships were unbelievable, and even after the initial harvest, it took years for conditions to improve. And yet, in the midst of conditions that we could not even begin to comprehend, they gave thanks to their Heavenly Father.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6)

It is very clear throughout the Word that the Giving of Thanks is to be a lifestyle for the one who trusts in God and is called by His Name. Please take a moment to read and ponder the following Scriptures.

Daniel Gave Thanks to God three times a day
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. (Daniel 6:10)

Jesus Gave Thanks
And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. (John 6:11-12)

Those who were healed and touched of the Lord Gave Thanks
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. (Luke 17:15-16)

Those who received salvation Gave Thanks
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:12-13)

It is the will of God for us to Give Thanks
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:18-24)

In Timothy we are exhorted that the Giving of Thanks ought to be one of the first things we do.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; (1Timothy 2:1-3)

In Hebrews we find that the Giving of Thanks as an offering and sacrifice.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. (Hebrews 13:15)

The Sound of "Thanks" Fills Heaven
And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. (Revelation 11:16-17)

Today we would like to ask you to take time right now to say,

"Thank You, Lord."

We all have needs or requests that we can make. Let’s take a moment to reflect on what you have that you can be thankful unto to God for.

Are there things in your family, finances, health, salvation, job, home, friends, schooling, community, nation and church that you can be thankful for?

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: (Psalm 92:1)

Saints, Let Praise and Thanksgiving pour forth from your heart!

Life @ Wipro

Well, Its been a few days here.

Brand Wipro does all the hype. Yet its a place where you can get security, job satisfaction and get settled...if you like to!

The war for the do$$ar
People fight for the $ , they jump every now and then for more, more and more!!!

According to me, money is always secondary. Respect, Satisfying Work, and then a brand like Wipro, with some standard package is more sufficient for the long run.

Values
Stay in a place for quite a long time, make yourself useful to others and your company. Meanwhile enjoy your stay. Wipro is a great place to work!

Integrity
One of the things I like about Wipro is its Unyielding Integrity. I appreciate its care to recruit genuine lateral joinees. In Wipro, A genuine is never at the mercy of a fake.

finally,
The Blessings of the Lord add riches, and he adds no sorrows to it!

Its like saying, "Blessings!! No Sorrows Attached!!!"

All glory to Jesus!

New Waters

I am going to tell you two stories here. One is about fishing and another is about a fish. First lets start with Fishing.
A Fisherman lived by a lake of water. Everyday he caught fishes, and lived happily by selling them and making revenue. One day the lake dried up and all the fishes died. So the fisherman moved to another place, this time an Ocean to catch fishes. Not everyday he can catch fishes there, but he can catch a lot of them now. I am done with my first story.

The second one: A boy who was very fond of pets bought a small Gold Fish with his savings. Then he needed a glass bowl to let the Gold Fish in. He ran to his kitchen and asked his mummy for one. His mom gave one glass jar once used for storing cookies. He filled them with water and let the Gold Fish in. He fed her properly and soon the fish grew up to his delight. Now the fish was unable to move freely inside the jar. Because of its grown up size, it could remain only in a static position. On seeing this the boy got troubled in his mind. He took all his savings went to a pet shop, and bought a big fish tank. He filled it with water, and let the fish inside. The fish swam now gracefully inside the new waters!

Disclaimer: I'm not boasting or proud!

Abide in Love

- Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
(1 John 2:17)

Beloved! In this transient world, he who does the will of God abides forever. The Bible says, “The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17). But there are certain things that we need to follow to live eternally.

1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “Now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” When we hold on to these three firmly, these will enable us to be deep rooted in Christ amidst our trials, tribulations and sickness.

There are two reasons for love to be the greatest among the three. We come across the first reason in Galatians 5:6, "Faith working through love." If we do not have love, faith cannot work. What about hope? "Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us" (Romans 5:5).

God's love, which is poured out in our hearts, gives us hope. Hence, without love, we do not get faith and hope. That is why, Apostle Paul said, "Though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing" (1 Corinthians 13:1-2).

Many years ago we had been to Canada and there we went to amusement place called “Sea World”. There we saw two huge dolphins of great weight in a large pool of water. They would perform many tricks to amuse the spectators. When asked to jump, they would jump immediately. If commanded to touch a ball, which is hung at ten feet high, they judge the distance carefully and leap out of the water and touch the ball. Do you know how they train them? The trainers keep a bucket of small fish with them and give some of them as food. Then they teach them tricks and command them to do them. When they finish performing the tricks, the trainers will give them some more fish. After eating the fish, they go back happily. These small fish make the dolphins obey the commands. Likewise, only the small fish 'love' makes 'faith and hope' work. Hence, 'love' is considered to be the greatest among the three.

We come across the second reason in Proverbs 10:12, "Love covers all sins." 1 Peter 4:8 says, "Love will cover a multitude of sins." Faith cannot do this. It is only by the love of Jesus Christ can a person be forgiven of his sins.

Once, Jesus Christ was invited by a Pharisee to eat with him. A sinful woman who knew Jesus was at the Pharisee’s house brought in an alabaster of fragrant oil. She sat at the feet of Jesus and wept. She then wiped His feet with her hair and anointed them with the fragrant oil. Jesus looked at the host and said, "Simon, the love shown by this woman, ever since she came to your house, melts my heart. Even I too want to show My love to her. Hence, I forgive all her sins." Since she loved Jesus very much, He looked at her and said, "Your sins are forgiven" (Luke 7:37,38). Yes, her love for the Lord made Him forgive all her sins in a moment.

Beloved! The Bible says, “Let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God”(1 John 4:7). So, let us love one another with the love of God for this is the will of God for us on earth. Then blessings and peace shall abound in our lives.

Prayer:
Loving Heavenly Father,
I thank You for Your great love and for the way it has touched my life. Thank You for empowering me, enabling me to do things I never thought I could do. You have allowed me to serve You, equipping me with Your Spirit, and filling me with Your love. Help me to act in love, speak in love, walk in love, and pray in love. Keep my emotions under the power of love, and make my thoughts loving ones. In Jesus' mighty name, I make this humble prayer.
Amen.

My thoughts here:
This *Love* is the love of God, not the human love, and not a love which could be understood by a human being. Its from the heaven. Heaven is the source for this love(Agape).
When we are saved, God pours into our hearts this love through His Holy Spirit.
When people turn from this love, they find it difficult to come back. They lose their faith level and hope relatively.
As precious and gentle the Anointing is, so is this Love. Therefore it should be guarded likewise.

Isaiah 49:15 (King James Version)
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

My Favorite Songs

Hallelujah praise the Lamb

From the moment man first disobeyed the Father
We were then held captive by our sins
The law of God demanded a sacrifice
Returning to Himself His own again

So the Lamb, God's only Son was freely offered
Atonement for our sins forever made
He innocent and holy, yet God and God only
Could ransom and redeem us back again

Chorus
Hallelujah praise the Lamb
Hallelujah praise the Lamb
My heart sings His praise again
Hallelujah praise the Lamb

So the cross they carried Him
With all our guilt and all our sin
The Lamb of God was slain for our transgressions
So to the cross those nail pierced hands
Reached up to God and down to man
And just as if I'd never sinned
He took me in His arms

So graciously and willingly forgave
For mercy, grace, and love that knows no boundaries
Though guilty and condemned I now am free
Forever I'm forgiven for Christ the Lord is risen
And risen with Him we shall one day be

Made me Glad

I will bless the Lord forever
I will trust Him at all times
He has delivered me from all fear
He has set my feet upon a rock
I will not be moved
And I'll say of the Lord

Chorus
You are my shield
My strength
My portion
Deliverer
My shelter
Strong tower
My very present help in time of need

Verse 2
Whom have I in heaven but You
There's none I desire beside You
You have made me glad
And I'll say of the Lord

All the Heavens

Holy holy are You Lord
The whole earth is filled with Your glory
Let the nations rise to give
Honour and praise to Your name

Let Your face shine on us
And the world will know You live
All the heavens shout Your praise
Beautiful is our God
The Universe will sing
Hallelujah to You our King

All for love

All for love a father gave
For only love could make a way
All for love the heavens cried
For Love was crucified…

Oh how many times have I broken your heart
But still you forgive if only I ask?
And how many times have you heard me pray?
Draw near to me…

Everything I need is You
My beginning, my forever
Everything I need is you…

Let me sing all for love
I will join the angels song
Ever Holy is the Lord
King of Glory, King of all…

All for love the Saviour prayed:
“Abba father have your way
Though they know not what they do
Let the cross draw man to you…”

This is my Desire

This is my desire, to honour You,
Lord with all my heart,
I worship You,
All I have within me, I give You praise,
All that I adore, is in You,

Lord I give You my heart,
I give You my soul,
I live for You alone,
Every breath that I take,
Every moment I'm awake,
Lord have Your way in me.

Music, Songs and Movies

I would like to share here about Music & Songs - how it blesses us, and how it can affect us.

Which music do you listen to?
As Christians, people do ask me 'Do you listen to secular songs? Do you go to movies?'

Well I was listening to them, and may listen to them, But do not wish to.

To me, there is no such thing as secular songs. I hate the word 'secular' with all my heart. There is either Spiritual Songs that gives life to you, or the Fleshy Songs that results in death.

Let me explain it. When you watch a This is your day telecast, you should have observed this: The presence of God fills your room. Your faith level arises as you hear those testimonies. Finally as you pray, healings take place in your life. Above all your life gets transformed.
Now imagine you are watching a movie (fleshy in my terms), it demotes the presence of God. It takes you into the world. Those love stories and songs becomes a poison for your life in Christ. The devil who is behind that literally gains access to your soul.

David, The Psalmist:
David in the Bible, wrote the book of Psalms, which is an all-time favorite among the God's people. David himself is a person, who strengthens himself in the Lord. Throughout the psalms you can find his dependence on God, and the result of that dependence as joyful psalms.
David is a singer. (often Fr.Berchmans is referred to David). He is a musician. He had that interests while he was still tending the flock as a poor Shepherd. When he became King later, no doubt he would have had the best ever music team with him.When David played the music, the demon left Saul.

Philipians 3

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Living The Josephian Life

When it comes to self-control and sexual purity, people do talk about two persons from the Bible. (i.e) David and Joseph. Thirdly, Samson.

Last Sunday Ps.Prakash(FGAG) shared God's word based on this Biblical character: Joseph. Its a simple, yet very deep and profound truth.

We are well aware of how Joseph's life. He went through the following:

  • PROMISE

  • PROBLEMS

  • PERSEVERANCE

  • PROMOTION

1. We have a calling:

For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One He loves. Eph 1:4-6

Do not ever forget your calling in Christ!

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. Eph 4:17-19

2. World will hate us:

Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more... Gen 37:5
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. John 15:19

3. Trials and tests:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Eph 6:10-18

The only way you can pass through the tests is by staying under the Cross. You can't live your life as you please and expect yourself to be a Joseph. You are bought with a price. Be faithful to the One who has called you.

"Joseph lost his coat, but not his character". Joseph faced the tests day after day. Here he exercised self-control. Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. Prov 25:28. Samson lacked self-control. David was not in full armor when he encountered his test. Beware.For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Prov 7:26 I remember the song,"Have courage my boy, say no..."

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit!Gal 5:19-25

4. Walking with Christ

You and God always make a majority. Here the Lord was with Joseph, what else does he want in life?
But while Joseph was there in the prison, the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph's care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. Gen 39:20b-23

So Pharaoh asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?" Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you." Gen 41:38-40

5. Promotion comes from the Lord

Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another Psa 75:5-7

Even your bosses are under Christ."The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases." Prov 21:1

The Patience of the Lord

The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
(Matt 18:26-27)

I can quote numerous verses from the Bible regarding the Patience of the Lord.

Never give up anytime in your life. Ask God for His patience, and you will find His forgiveness, grace and mercy rushing towards you.

Here the servant did not ask for forgiveness. He just asked his master to be patient with him. In turn, his master took compassion on him and forgave him all his debts.

He is not slack. He is patient towards all men, that they might be saved. The Lord on the Cross was patient towards those who nailed Him. He is patient with you.

Sometimes you may feel very tough to forgive someone for something they did to you. During those times, Ask God to fill you with His patience. Then God will be pleased with your request. He will fill you with His own patience, kindness and love. Also you will be filled with His mercy, grace and forgiveness. Then you can forgive your enemies. You can forgive others debts. God's living presence and peace will rule your heart and life.

Hallelujah!

Don't be deceived by the liar. Rejoice in the Lord!!

The Message Of The Cross

  • The cross is the place of safety.

  • The cross is the place of life.

  • The cross is the place of protection.

  • The cross is the place of glory that is unperishable.

  • The cross is the place of victory.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.
(1Corin 1:18-25)

Please, please never run away from the Cross...

Applying Thought

"But thanks be unto God who always gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!"

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil 4:13

If not for my Lord Jesus, surely I will be nobody.

CellPhone and Photos

I like this response from my friend Leslie Vincent for a photo that i sent to him. The photo is a wine framed version of him taken earlier in a cellphone. (I cant post the photo here!)

He likes to express everything in a biblical perspective, with dollops of humor. A take-it-easy kinda guy, u can learn a lot from him.

CellPhonesShowOff Chapter 1 verse 15
"If your cell phone makes you to take unwanted photos , then its better for you to throw the cell phone into the bin and roll on the floor and ask for forgiveness and go to heaven than to go to hell with a cell phone with all those photos"

worth giving it a thought...

Fire

Peter Henry shared God's word yesterday on "Fire" : The significance of FIRE for God; the significance of FIRE in the Word of God.

  • Our God is a consuming fire

  • Fire is to be kept burning in the tabernacle 24x7

  • In the holy of holies a lamp is burning to give light. The Lord is the lamp.

  • Elijah demonstrated the power of God by bringing the fire of God down. Worshiping the true God, brings down His fiery presence, in contrasts to false worship.

  • No one puts the fire under the cot. We are called to show light into the world.

  • Don't quench the spirit

  • Don't lose the fervent zeal for God. Let the fire be aflame for Christ always.

Warnings:

  • Don't bring a strange fire. As Nadab and Abieu, Aaron's sons brought. Then the fire of God came from His presence and consumed them up.

  • Whats the strange fire? Think about this. Think how God reacts to this!

Rules for Holy Living

Today we will look at some verses from the Colossians, chapter 3.

1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

I want to talk about being sexually clean here. Holiness is being set apart for God. Holiness is a spiritual state. We know we have the flesh(the body) and the spirit(that relates to God). Flesh wills against the spirit and vice versa. Well, I don't know why in fact God allowed us to fight this battle.
Lust means excessive greed. Here this is immoral desire. A man without control is very much a city without walls. Very dangerous.
In the new covenant, we are to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh.

(1) GUARD YOUR THOUGHTS: verse 1-4 talks about this. Where should we keep our minds? Think on these things: .... Our mind should be on Christ. Be aware of your new birth and that you are a new creature. Dead bodies do not grow. While living bodies grow.

(2) UNDERSTAND IMMORALITY: while there is morality, there can be immorality. Think about sexual immorality. We believe God designed sex and it is for Good. Is it immoral by itself? the answer is No. When you see the word 'sexual immorality', evidently there is something called 'sexual morality'. The new testament says that the morality is well within the boundaries of marriage. Anything the world tells against this is immorality.
When children are disobedient, God is not pleased with them. He gets angry against them. Wrath is still a powerful word. verse 8 says, now is your time to put off these things.

12Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

(3) FORGIVE OTHERS: verse 13 says, forgive others as Christ forgave you. Christ forgave us not because we justified our sins or not because of our Works. Christ forgave us when we were sinful, disobedient, rebellious and so on. In Psalm it says, Do not go to bed when you are in anger. Pray, forgive and never hold any bitterness or strife. Love is the key to forgiveness.

(4) HAVE THE PEACE OF GOD: In verse 15, God says "Let my peace rule over you". Initially those short lived pleasures of the world will appear peaceful, its true for a short time. Claim, Ask and Cry out to God for His peace to rule over you. There is no other way!

(5) BE RICH IN HIS WORD: Most of the time we are rich in the World, but God calls us to be rich in His Word. Word of God can transform and renew your mind. Its pure and its the only Standard for us. It can help you not to stray. People fall where there is no admonishing. Even as you are reading this, you are being helped out of your trap.

(6) SING SPIRITUAL SONGS: verse 16 says 'psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord'. People do ask is it right to listen to secular songs? Truly, I hate the word 'secular'. There can be only one of these two: Spiritual songs or Fleshy songs. One gives life while the other is death. One heals while the other poisons. You can always choose one among this two. v17, gives the key - Always be Christ-minded. You are not your own. You are bought with a price by Christ for Christ.

23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

25But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

(7) WAIT FOR HIS REWARD: God always rewards the faithful. v25, warns us. Unlike men, with God there is no favoritism. Expect your reward from God. Wait and hope. You may not be rewarded on this earth or the sooner you desire it. Again do it for God.

Holy holy are You Lord
The whole earth is filled with Your glory
Let the nations rise to give
Honour and praise to Your name

Let Your face shine on us
And the world will know You live

All the heavens shout Your praise
Beautiful is our God
The universe will sing
Hallelujah to You our King

Holy holy are You Lord
The whole earth is filled with Your glory
Let the nations rise to give
Honour and praise to Your name

Let Your face shine on us
And the world will know You live

All the heavens shout Your praise
Beautiful is our God
The universe will sing
Hallelujah to You our King

Hallelujah to You our King
Hallelujah to You our King

God of Wonderful Creation

Its been quite a long time since i last blogged. Well, My current book is Indigo from the collections of Ray. Some amazing things we fail to notice in this hectic life. Things as these (some of it) are well portrayed in this book.

There are one billion people in this world. Each one is created uniquely. Of course, every one has the same features: a pair of eyes, a pair of ears, a nose etc. Yet everyone is so unique that we can distinguish them. Even the identical twins who look exactly alike, have their own differences in attitude, tastes, behavior, thought patterns, likes and dislikes. Wow! Can't stop wondering at this. How great is our God!

Another revelation: Dust to Dust (O Real) - This is a line from the lyrics of Nick Cannon's My Rib. We are yet again reminded that we are running short of time. The fact of 'dust to dust' we tend to forget in the midst of our sophisticated lifestyle. The bottom line is this: Don't forget the reality! Don't forget your Creator!!

God Bless!

Focus, Obedience and Reward

I heard this thought yesterday from my colleague.

What i can say is : No-Focus, No-Obedience, Severe-Consequences

Its not an option to obey. Its a must. Its a command.

Its either DO otherwise DIE.

Its Life and Death issue.

How we take these things lightly?????..............

Don't expect any reward (In other words don't be reward minded) when you obey. Fear the consequences of not obeying. Then you will succeed!

Today is the day you can start obeying!!!

Have a nice day ! Immanuel !!

Where do we Stop?

Shekar Kapoor, thats the name if i am correct, of the person who shared God's Word last sunday.

Some of the obstacles for our Christian walk:

  • Seeking God becomes an activity

  • Seeking God becomes a religious thing

  • Chosen ones become frozen ones

  • Believers become concrete slab (that sets quickly and that's it)

  • They forget the first love

  • They lose the enthusiasm for the spirit led life

  • They forget the greatness of the ZOE life

  • Somebody lives in self-righteousness

  • The Sophistication of our lives hinders us from loving God

  • People does not want to change / grow

  • People don't want to leave their comfort-zone

  • God has become a need-meeter

  • Some people are so struck to their traditions

What should you do?

  • Have personal encounter with God daily. If this is not there don't tell me you are a Christian.

  • Involve yourself in the vision of your Senior Pastor. Don't say 'I don't have that calling' or 'There is the pastor to do that'

  • Have a born again experience daily. Some gets born again to become dead again. They get born again on Sunday, get dead again on monday, to rise again on next sunday.

  • God has given us ALL spiritual riches IN Christ Jesus for us to live this ZOE life. He has done his part to the fullest. What about you and me? Where are we standing today??

Thats Serious! Act now!! Move on fast!!!

My blog is rated 'G'

Saw on Femvale’s blog that his/her blog has been given a PG rating *sorry buddy*. Out of curiosity, I ran my blog through the same test and mine got a G rating. Haha. :D

There’s nothing scientific or cutting-edge about the test - I think it merely checks for the presence of certain keywords inside your blog. For example, the test results for my blog indicates that my blog contains no offensive words while that of fernvale contains two undesirable keywords: suicide and pain.

Interested to check the rating of your blog? Just click on the label above. Have fun, with a pinch of salt!

Job Scheduling

I love Linux Shell Scripts. That is one of the coolest areas to work with. Traditionally in Windows we used to work with MS DOS commands. But Linux shell scripting interests me the most.

Cron is the infamous buzzword for scheduling jobs. It helps you schedule jobs chronologically. There is another command that helps schedule one-time jobs. Think about it, your machine is used as a server for a lot of people working, connecting to your machine. You will not be there till every one of them finish using your server. Once they finish, your server well needs to be shutdown for maintenance. But as people are selfish, you cant trust them to do the shutdown for you. But well, yes, you can very well trust your program to do that for you.

atd is the the Linux command used to schedule one-time jobs queued for later execution. atd is the service which has to be enabled and running to do this.

Some Examples:

[samjosh@Samjosh ~]$ /sbin/service atd restart

# Schedule system shutdown at 18:20
[samjosh@Samjosh ~]$ at 20:30
at> poweroff
at>
job 16 at 2007-08-16 20:30
[samjosh@Samjosh ~]$

# To see all the jobs in queue
[samjosh@Samjosh ~]$ atq
16 2007-08-16 20:30 a samuelt
[samjosh@Samjosh ~]$

Well then what if all of the clients shutdown before the scheduled time? You need to check constantly whether any of your client is alive. If so, wait... otherwise its safe to power off your machine.

Here are the snippets!

# Checks status of your client
host=192.168.0.118
ping -c 1 $host
if [ `echo $?` -ne 0 ]
then
echo $host" is alive"
else
echo $host" is not alive"
fi

# Tip
Use as in the above snippet for each of your clients. Do this in a while loop. If a client is alive you can continue the loop as follows:

while [ 1 ]
do

{if - host1 is alive }
shift
continue
{else - check for host2 }
....
{if - host n is dead }

echo "System shutdown at `date` " >> ~/Desktop/my_log.txt
poweroff

done

Cool! I luvvit... Samjosh.

Hope

Hope for the Hopeless - That's what Jesus Christ came to give two thousand years ago. And still He is the same. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Hopeless
Today men in this world are hopeless, because of sin, sickness, poverty, anxiety, fear among a whole lot of others.

Sin: sin and addiction cripples people and slowly strangles them to death. People feel hopeless as they don't find a way to come out of it.

Sickness: You may have a job, a car and may live in luxury. Yet this sickness robs you of all pleasure and leaves you totally *sick* bedridden. Hopeless!

Poverty: This is another major ailment: see Proverbs 30:8-10 , Proverbs 28:6 It leaves you hopeless.

Anxiety: Synonyms are worries about tomorrow, unwanted worries etc.

Fear: Fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of evil etc.

The Good News

The Good news is that Jesus Christ has promised hope to the hopeless. Remember the woman at the well, He saw herself as a woman who brought her whole village to Christ. Remember the 38 year sick man at the pool of Bethesda. Remember the Lord at the tomb of Lazarus. Remember the Lord who met Peter when he was casting his nets after His resurrection.

He sees a new You. He has given all that you need to live a victorious life. Salvation, Gifts and the Anointing and the ever-present Helper.

Why then people are still hopeless? : A Price to Pay

Obedience, discipline and a total Surrender is required. Remember, No one can serve two masters.
Hope you will take this message. Jesus said: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light! (Matt-11:29-30)

Those Little Foxes...

The Word of God says in Song of Solomon 2:15 : Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

We have a loving Saviour who died on the Calvary for us, shedding even His last drop of blood for us. His love towards us is so great and beyond human comprehension. Jesus is the true vine, we are His branches. When we are there, those little foxes comes and spoils us.

Those little foxes that steal our joy:
     The world offers a life that appears to be a glorious one. But the standards of the world are against the standard of the Word. When we give way to those little foxes in our lives, we end up being spoiled and fruitless.

Lets have wisdom to protect the vine and to bear much fruit for the one who gave His life for us.

The Joy of the Lord

Psalm 43
Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.
For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.
Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

  • The Joy of the Lord is an everlating one.
  • The Joy of the Lord comes from His altar.
  • The Joy of the Lord comes from the House of God.
  • The Joy of the Lord belongs to the Lord.

In His presence there is fullness of Joy. When you go and place yourself at His altar, His joy fills you.

Psalm 92:12-15
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

The righteousness of the righteous will keep on increasing. It will keep on growing taller. The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree. Why a palm tree? A palm tree is tall and and it fruits are on the top of it. The fruits of the righteous are on the top of the tree for the world to see. People may not listen to your words, but they will see your fruits.

Happiness and Joy
There is a significant difference between Joy and Happiness.

Happiness is based on your soul. It is a state of mind. You are happy when you buy a house or have a biriyani or get a hike or a new job. Happiness is temporal. When the time goes on, you come back to the *normal*.

Joy is not based on your circumstances. It is not based on whether something good happens to you, or something bad happens in your life. This kind of joy comes from the Lord (and yes, Lord only). This joy is an eternal one! Daniel and His friends had this joy when they were thrown into the fire.

Run to the Cross and stay there!!!

Lessons from the nature (part 2)

Animals which are Good Examples: Job 39:19-30 KJV

Horse

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

Lesson: Never turn back. Never go back. Your strength is from your Master!

Hawk

A Hawk always flies towards the South.

Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

Lesson: Our strength comes from the south. Victory comes not from the North or the East or the West. But it comes from the Lord. Always fly towards the mount of God towards the south

Eagle

An Eagle always flies high. An eagle builds its nest on high.

Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

Lesson: Never live a crow life. Live an eagle life! Many crows may chase the eagle. But the eagle never looks back. It keeps on going, It keeps on flying high! Dont see your circumstances. Keep flying high towards the Master.

Lessons from the nature

Animals which are Bad Examples: Job 39:1-17 KJV

Wild Goats

The young ones go away from their parents and do not return to them.

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

Lesson: Honour your parents. Love them. Never neglect them at any point of time.

Wild ass

Doesnt care for anyone. It's just wild!

Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

Lesson: Be caring for others. Dont just be a church goer. Involve yourself in the ministry of the church. Open up your house for a cell prayer for instance.

Unicorn

Its selfish, lazy, it does not save. You cannot trust it.

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

Lesson: Serve others. Save your money. Spend time with your family. Be somebody that God can trust.

Ostrich

Leaves her eggs and forgets them.

Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;
Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

Lesson: Dont leave your eggs, which are the Salvation, the anointing and the Gifts of God. Dont be foolish enough to leave your eggs.

Weekly Manna

If i ask you "What did you have for today's breakfast?", You will reply me 'idli' or 'dosa' or 'blah blah blah' because you remember it.

But if i ask you "What did you have for breakfast last monday?", you will simply stare at me.

Well we people forget what we do eat in the course of time. I believe the same thing does happen with our spiritual food too. You may not remember the message/sermon that you heard from your preacher 3 weeks ago. Albeit, don't worry. We are here to help you!

Oh, lemme say somethin' : Sam Josh is now blogging on the sunday sermons!! Bookmark http://java-salt.blogspot.com today!!!

OK now, for the last sunday..........

Last Sunday our Senior Pastor(Rev.Paul Thangiah) brought out God's word on learning from the nature that God Created for Himself. Everything He created, He created for Himself. God even created the wicked for the day of destruction. phew!

God speaks often through the nature. How many of you have experienced that? Oh I can see many hands raising up there. Ok, well We'll meditate from Job 31:1-17 this week.

God Bless!
Samuel

Paginate your Lists

Pagination is a bare necessity when it comes to handling lists in your web applications. And a good pagination always makes your application more user friendly. Google, the foremost search engine has one of the best Pagination for it. So this article helps you work out a pagination for your lists. Sit tight.

In this article, we will discuss the logic around paginating a list with the Google-Pagination like Look and Feel. As you would have noticed there in Google, the current page is always displayed at the centre of the links, unless otherwise it can't be so.

The scope of the article is just to give you a brief idea on how you can go about working a pagination around your data, and this does not cover retrieval of data and/or caching your data from the database. Right, Having known this let's make a list of requirements that our pagination has to meet.

Feature Analysis:

  • Links to show on the page
  • Showing previous and next Buttons when needed
  • Highlighting of current page number
  • Handling a random selection of page
  • Showing the current page link at the centre

(i) Defining the Properties:

Let's say right now we will allow only a maximum of 10 links to be displayed on a page. Clicking a link gets a page with say, 10 rows of data. So at a stretch a user can see 10 links/pages of 10 rows each. Doesn't matter if the total number of results is less than 100 rows of data. We will show them all. But if we get some 500 results as an example, we will not be showing 500/10=50 links. Rather we will show only the first 10 links. We will hold this in a global variable and this is a final one. Here goes the snippet:

public final static int TOTAL_LINKS = 5;

Deduce the total number of result pages to be listed. This in fact we will pre-determine at the beginning. Although we may have to change this at the later course. We will come back to that shortly, be rest assured.

public static int TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES = 9;

We also need to initialize certain variables like Current Page, Page to Start :the first link to show up on the page, Page to Finish :the last link to show up on the page, MidPosition :the middle link position.

private int CURR_PAGE = 1;

private int PAGE_TO_START = 1;

private final int MID_LINK_POSITION = (int) Math
.ceil((double) TOTAL_LINKS / 2);

private int PAGE_TO_FINISH = (TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES < TOTAL_LINKS) ? TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES
: PAGE_TO_START + (TOTAL_LINKS - 1);

Create the accessors/mutators for the above said variables.

(ii) Links to show on the page:

At the client side you have to know the starting-link/ending-link to display. You have to highlight the current page number while showing the links. The values for these variables have to be updated whenever you access any page links. The following code snippet demonstrates this.

public void getPagesToDisplay() {
if (TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES > TOTAL_LINKS) {
if (CURR_PAGE - MID_LINK_POSITION > 0) {
PAGE_TO_START = (CURR_PAGE - MID_LINK_POSITION) + 1;
PAGE_TO_FINISH = (PAGE_TO_START + TOTAL_LINKS) - 1;

while (PAGE_TO_FINISH > TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES) {
PAGE_TO_FINISH--;
PAGE_TO_START--;
}//end while
}//end if
if (CURR_PAGE <= MID_LINK_POSITION) {
PAGE_TO_START = 1;
PAGE_TO_FINISH = (PAGE_TO_START + TOTAL_LINKS) - 1;
}// end if
}//end if
}

(iii) Navigating through the Links

You need to track back one page on 'previous' action, and go forward one page from the current page for 'next' action. Then you have to update the links to display.

public void next() {
if (CURR_PAGE < TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES) {
CURR_PAGE++;
}
getPagesToDisplay();
}

public void previous() {
if (CURR_PAGE > 1) {
CURR_PAGE--;
}
getPagesToDisplay();
}

What if you want to access a page directly? Its so simple! Just set the current page number to the page you are going to access. Then don't forget to update the links to display.

public void gotoPage(int pageNumber) {
if (CURR_PAGE <= TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES) {
CURR_PAGE = pageNumber;
}// end if
getPagesToDisplay();
}

Before displaying Next/Previous links on your page, make sure they are available for you. This is a best practice.

public boolean hasNextPage() {
if (CURR_PAGE < TOTAL_RESULT_PAGES)
return true;
return false;
}

public boolean hasPreviousPage() {
if (CURR_PAGE > 1)
return true;
return false;
}

(iv) Handling page results

Using the currentPageNumber and pageSize, show the records on the page. I leave this as an exercise for you!

While this article guides you through a way of paginating your data, hundreds of open-source & commercial paging tools and tag libraries are available online. My favorite one is the Pager Tag Library. Other tools include the Display Tag Library among several others. Hope this helps and is of use to you.

EDIT:
JSP Part of the code.

<%
Pagination pagination = (Pagination) session.getAttribute("paginationCollection");

/**
* Display the Search results here
*
* <param> currentPageNumber
*
*
*/

// { //write the records here };

/**
* Displaying page navigation Links
*
*/

//get the value of PAGE_TO_START
int startPageNo = patientPage.getStartPageNumber();

//get the value of PAGE_TO_FINISH
int endPageNo = patientPage.getEndPageNumber();

//get the value of CURR_PAGE
int currentPageNo = patientPage.getCurrentPage();

//Variable that holds the total search result pages
int lastPageNo= patientPage.getTotalNoOfPages();

if (currentPageNo>1) {
%>
<a href='list!NavigateToPage.action?pageNumber=1' style="text-decoration:none">[Previous] </a>
<%
}//end if showPreviousPageLink

for (int i = startPageNo; i <= endPageNo; i++) {
if (i==currentPageNo){
%>
<b><%= i %></b>    //Set the current page to BOLD. Not a Link.
<%
} else {
%>
//Pages with Links
<a href='list!NavigateToPage.action?pageNumber=<%=i%>' style="text-decoration:none"><%= i%></a>
<%
}//end if else
}//end for : display the page Links

if (currentPageNo<lastPageNo) {
%>
<a href='list!NavigateToPage.action?pageNumber=<%= lastPageNo%>' style="text-decoration:none">[Next] </a>
<%
}//end if showNextPageLink
%>

The Order of the Phoenix

Just remembered finishing this book of around 1000 pages within a record time of 2 days.

It is no nonsense till book 5.

Looking forward to see Movie 5 for which today is the official day of worldwide release!

Edit:(app 2 weeks later)
Quick update :

The movie is not so appealing as the book does.
It should be JK's writing that does all... its all abt the hype.....

A Quick review on Book7
I got the wrong book (pdf) 2 weeks ahead of the release of book 7.
I came to know this 2 weeks after the release. Then I got the right one.

By that time, i dint have patience (also time) to read through the book.
I quickly turned over the pages for an answer to the highly anticipated question: "Whats the end?"...

To make it short:
1. Some of the order members dies... including Tonks, Lupin...
2. Fred Weasley dies...
3. Hagrid I'm afraid is dead... not sure.. have to confirm.
4. The TRIO (ahem), they are well and alive. Thats the Hollywood kind of ending, which i suspected initially may not happen, cos JKR is little sadistic(?!)
5. Then as predicted by Mugglenet, Snape is on the good side, though he is killed at the end by Voldemort. He plays a major role in Harry's victory over Voldemort.
6. Dumbledore's death in the previous book was originally arranged between him and Snape.
7. Finally how did Harry make it? They have a concept of "The Elder Wand" which Harry happens to get through the help of Dumbledore, Snape including others. This wand is kind of elder to the Voldemort's one......
       It goes like this: Harry shoots the curse that's supposed to disarm Voldemort of his wand and Voldemort shoots the final curse (avada kedavra) both at the same time. (Remember, Harry has the elder wand.) Both the curses meet midway in the air, rises high, then Voldemort's curse bounces back to him making him fall dead (atlast!). Voldemort's wand was also caught by Harry. Harry becomes the hero of the wizarding community!
       The story aftermath: Harry destroys the elder wand, as it is of no use to him anymore and no one should use it also. Dumbledore has tears in his eyes as he watches this from his portrait at the Hogwarts.
       Nineteen years later: Harry-Ginny the married ones have 5 kids: (Albus, Rose, blah, blah, blah) etc, etc.

The End

Looking back, Voldemort resembles Satan well by all means. So this has some bad effects if this is thought more than a novel.

Well, thats the end of it.

Eclipse Europa

Having read my recent blog on Netbeans, you should not demean the ultimate Eclipse Europa. Netbeans will NEVER be able to come up to Eclipse in terms of L&F (Look and Feel).

Eclipse Europa (the official name for Eclipse 3.3) comes with a whole lot of things including Mylyn. Eclipse is the IDE that I would love to work on.

Netbeans Six

I’ve never been a big fan of Netbeans. There was always something about it that made my skin crawl. It never reached the same level of usability of Eclipse.

But now I have to admit that for the first time in my career I actually anticipated the release of a piece of software. I am even “ashamed” to say that I actually count down the hours and minutes of the official Netbeans Six release.

Coming back to Netbeans, It just works like a charm...! In just a while, when you go tell your interviewer "I know in and out of EJB 3.0" , the interviewer may respond "Oh! That's not a big deal, My Netbeans knows the same!". You may even stop calling yourself a EJB Specialist.

The new NetBeans 6.0 comes with powerful features that includes Easy Desktop GUI Development and Web/Enterprise development. You can order your Netbeans to do the software development for you! (In tamil, Ukkandha edathila erundhu nogama vela paarkiradhu)

Good innovative work by the Sun developers! I am afraid where the software world is heading towards. With a few customizations a non java developer can build the application he needs... and such a time is not very far.... Is this developer friendly? or customer friendly?
How can we call it?.

The IT Buzzword of the hour

Sivaji - The Boss

It can't get bigger. But will it meet the nerve tingling expectancy? This was the question raised by TOI dt. 15/06/07 the official day of release.

Well, my mind was racing the same way this week... But I got the answer for myself the next day (today!). Thanks to the baron of the box office (Shankar) for his own state-of-the-art, extraordinary extravaganzas. Thanks to ARR for his magnificent score, especially during the climax. The rest you know... a straight four and a half stars... Cool!

Sivaji Righta? : Well you may call it 'fever', 'mania' , and a whole lot of others. But it's certainly a thrill to be a part of it. Somebody said 'You *must* be a fan 250% to enjoy the Rajni film'.

Kingdom First

Jesus said in Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The Psalmist says in 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. So when you seek the Lord, you will find Him.

But never ever forget this: They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul Psalm 106:13-15. This passage talks about the Israelites, the chosen children of God, had their desires, and they craved for it. They would've probably gone mad without it. God at this moment probably could not do anything other than granting it, BUT (aha, here is the key) He sent leanness into their soul. So you cannot override God's will with yours, although you may blindly think that God approves it.

Ripping your audio CD to Mp3

(Fedora Core)

For ripping your audio CD, use Sound Juicer, which can be accessed like this :
Applications->Sound and Video->Sound Juicer CD Ripper

The files are ripped into ogg files by the sound juicer.

The sox and lame that comes with fedora core helps you convert these ogg files to mp3.

So here goes the two step funda:

1) using sox convert your ogg to wav
eg. sox oggfile.ogg wavfile.wav
2) using lame convert this wav to mp3
eg. lame wavfile.wav mp3file.mp3

Go ahead and enjoy the music.

My favourite Mp3 player is mpg123 Go ahead and install one if you dont have. (yum it) then enjoy the light-weight, command-line mp3 layer.

that's for now,
samjosh :)

Direct Web Remoting - A Tutorial

The DWR / Direct Web Remoting is an open source solution under the Apache license for the developer who wants to use AJAX and XMLHttpRequest in an easy way.

A Step by Step example:

1) Create the java service class :

package com.example.dwr;

public class DWRPersonService {

public Person[] getAllPersons() {

Person[] list = new Person[3];

/* .............................
Call your Ejb / DAO here
and populate values in the array
.............................
*/

Person info = null;
info = new Person();
info.setId(1L);
info.setName("sam");
info.setCity("bangalore");
info.setCountry("india");
list[0] = info;

return list;
}//end of getAllPersons

}//end of Class

2) Create the java bean class. (can be your Info or Transfer Object)

package com.example.dwr;

public class Person {

private Long id;
private String name;
private String city;
private String country;

/*
* Getters and Setters are defined here
*/

/**
* @return the id
*/
public Long getId() {
return id;
}

/**
* @param id the id to set
*/
public void setId(Long id) {
this.id = id;
}

/**
* @return the name
*/
public String getName() {
return name;
}

/**
* @param name the name to set
*/
public void setName(String name) {
this.name = name;
}

// ...............

}//end of Class

3) Configure DWR in WebXml

Start by specifying DWR's existence in the web.xml

<servlet>
<servlet-name>dwr-invoker</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>org.directwebremoting.servlet.DwrServlet</servlet-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>debug</param-name>
<param-value>true</param-value>
</init-param> </servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>dwr-invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/dwr/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
</servlet>

Include dwr.jar in the WEB-INF/lib folder.

Place the scripts and css files in the respective folders.

You can download the latest jar from DWR Site

For support of autocomplete feature download the script.aculo.us-js-1.x.zip

4) Configure the dwr.xml

<!DOCTYPE dwr PUBLIC
"-//GetAhead Limited//DTD Direct Web Remoting 1.0//EN"
"http://www.getahead.ltd.uk/dwr/dwr10.dtd">
<dwr>
<allow>
<create creator="new" javascript="JDate">
<param name="class" value="java.util.Date"/>
</create>

<create creator="new" javascript="DWRPersonService">
<param name="class" value="com.example.dwr.DWRPersonService"/>
<include method="getAllPersons" />
</create>

<convert converter="bean" match="com.example.dwr.Person"></convert>
</allow>
</dwr>

We specify here to create a new js file for DWRPersonService.
The DWR engine will generate a file DWRPersonService.js at runtime
with the function getAllPersons.

The DWRPersonService.js created at run time by DWR Engine, looks as follows:

// Provide a default path to dwr.engine
if (dwr == null) var dwr = {};

if (dwr.engine == null) dwr.engine = {};

if (DWREngine == null) var DWREngine = dwr.engine;

if (DWRPersonService == null) var DWRPersonService = {};

DWRPersonService._path = '/dwr-sample/dwr';

DWRPersonService.getAllPersons = function(callback) {
dwr.engine._execute(DWRPersonService._path, 'DWRPersonService', 'getAllPersons', callback);
}

5) Create your Jsp.

Include the following js files from DWR.

<script type='text/javascript'
src='<%= request.getContextPath() %>/dwr/engine.js' />
<script type='text/javascript'
src='<%= request.getContextPath() %>/dwr/util.js' />

Also include the js file created for you, as defined in dwr.xml

<script type='text/javascript'
src='<%= request.getContextPath() %>/dwr/interface/DWRPersonService.js' />

Include the following js and css files for AutoComplete feature.

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
href="<%=request.getContextPath() %>/styles/autocomplete.css"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="<%= request.getContextPath() %>/scripts/prototype/prototype.js"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="<%= request.getContextPath() %>/scripts/script.aculo.us/effects.js"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="<%= request.getContextPath() %>/scripts/script.aculo.us/controls.js"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="<%= request.getContextPath() %>/scripts/autocomplete.js"/>

Create a text field with id personName. Create a div with the class auto_complete.
Instantiate the function AutoCompleter which takes the following arguments.
i)Id of the textField
ii)Id of the autocomplete Div for this textField
iii)function to populate the list – uses DWR
iv)Optional arguments like valueSelector – property to be listed from the Bean object, chioces – maximum number of choices to be displayed etc.
Finally, call the method DWRUtil.useLoadingMessage on body onLoad.

<script language="javascript">
function updatePersonList(autocompleter, token) {
DWRPersonService.getAllPersons(function(data) { autocompleter.setChoices (data); });
}
</script>

<body onload="DWRUtil.useLoadingMessage();">

Search Person: <input id="personName" type="text" style="width:250px;" / >

< div id="personListDiv" class="auto_complete" > </div>

<script type="text/javascript">
new Autocompleter.DWR('personName', 'personListDiv', updatePersonList,
{ valueSelector: function(obj){ return obj.name; }, partialChars: 1, choices: 10 });
</script>
</body>

In the above method the arguments are as follows :

new AutoCompleter.DWR(textFieldName, associatedDivName, methodForPopulatingList, optionalParams)

OptionalParams:
ValueSelector : the property of the bean that has to be shown in the autocomplete list. For example, 'name' property from 'Employee' bean.

PartialChars : Minimum number of characters to be entered in order to begin matching. Default value is 2.

Choices : Maximum number of items to be shown in the drop down.

Run your application and see DWR in action !!!
